Our History

Temple of Deliverance Mission (TDM) began in 1972 in Sapele, Nigeria, as an interdenominational fellowship called The Prayer and Bible Study Group (PBSG). Led by Bishop Samuel Uwumarongie, PBSG was a pioneering movement focused on evangelism, missions, Bible study, and prayer. This group planted churches, and new believers were nurtured with spiritual, financial, and material support.

In response to a vision given to Bishop Uwumarongie, the group was incorporated as Temple of Deliverance Mission (TDM). The vision showed the name “Temple of Deliverance” written above the entrance of their meeting place, followed by a powerful encounter where Jesus instructed Bishop Uwumarongie to “set them free,” symbolizing deliverance through the truth of the gospel (John 8:32). This calling laid the foundation for the church’s mission to bring freedom and hope to all through Christ.

Over the years, TDM expanded to seven locations across Nigeria. On August 17, 2003, Bishop Osas Otasowie, daughter of Bishop Uwumarongie, founded the first international branch in Palmdale, California, known as Temple of Deliverance Ministries International (TDMI). Guided by a vision to be a non-denominational, global, and multi-racial church, TDMI carries forward the mission of uniting God’s people across divides and equipping them for good works (Ephesians 2:10).

The legacy of TDM lives on through the dedication of its founders, Bishop Emeritus Samuel and Rev. Mrs. Esther Uwumarongie, the virtuous woman beside him. Together, their faith and perseverance brought this vision to life.
